PIP is the new allowance which is becoming the new DLA (Disability Living Allowance) which is for disabled people aged 16-64. PIP has two components which are, the daily living and mobility component. The components have 2 rates of payment, the standard the rate and the enhanced rate which is just like the DLA, even the prices are the same. The enhanced rate of the Mobility scheme is used to lease a Motability Scheme car, scooter or powered wheelchair. This is similar to the higher rate mobility component of DLA.
DLA had started to be replaced by PIP in April 2013 in Great Britain and in June 2016 in Northern Ireland. The replacement is expected to be completed by this year (2019).
If you are currently receiving DLA, then you will be invited to make a claim for PIP which will be processed by the DWP or the department for Communities in Northern Ireland, which has taken place already and will be completed this year (2019) sometime. You will receive a letter which will require you to respond within a matter of 4 weeks, it is important that you respond within the amount of time they have given you as you may not receive PIP.
